Music

The music program at St. Thomas the Apostle School is divided into three instructional areas. All of our students grades Kindergarten through 8 receive weekly general music classes with a focus on singing, playing classroom percussion instruments, recorder instruction, composing, improvisation, music theory, history of music, and study of composers. Beginning in grade 1, students may begin to study the violin.  Students in grades 3-8 are eligible to participate in our instrumental band program on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin and percussion. And our students in grades 5-8 may also choose to sing in our school’s Liturgy Choir that performs at First Friday masses, school events, in the community, and for special occasions. Many of our students are involved with the prestigious Empire State Youth Orchestra as well as NYSSMA. Many continue to study music throughout their high school and college years.
